Hologram IoT SIM Card

The WindNerd OnSpot needs a SIM card with a data plan to send wind data over the cellular network. The Hologram IoT SIM card works in most countries around the world with a single data plan.

Before inserting the SIM into the OnSpot, it must be activated on your own Hologram account, from which you also manage your data balance.

Activate the SIM​

  1. Create a free account on the Hologram Dashboard, and log in.
  2. Click Devices in the left navigation bar, then Activate more SIMs: the activation wizard opens.
  3. Enter the ICCID of your SIM. It is printed on the SIM card itself and on its holder card.
  4. Choose global data plan
  5. Set a data usage limit at 60MB (the SIM is paused automatically beyond it) and give the SIM a name.
  6. Add your payment details and click Pay and activate.

Activation can take up to 15 minutes to propagate across the network, but is often much faster.

Top Up Your Balance​

Hologram accounts are billed from a prepaid balance that your data usage draws from. To add funds:

  1. Log in to the Hologram Dashboard.
  2. Click Billing in the left navigation bar; the Account page opens.
  3. In the Account balance card, click Add balance.
  4. Enter the amount and confirm.

Auto-Refill​

To avoid your station going offline because the balance ran out, you can enable auto-refill: your card is charged automatically whenever the balance drops below a threshold you define.

  1. In the Billing section, make sure a valid payment method is on file in the Payment method card.
  2. Click Enable auto-refill and set the refill threshold and amount.

If uploads stop and the OnSpot status light still shows a healthy 1–2 flash pattern, an empty data balance is the most likely cause. See the OnSpot troubleshooting table.
